Mission Statement

The faculty at Independence Middle School is committed to provide a nurturing environment where students believe in themselves as learners, embrace diversity, and desire to overcome economic disadvantage. We will offer a safe, yet challenging atmosphere, where students will grow academically, socially, and emotionally as they are aware of a faculty who cares.

School Goals

Goal 1: Independence Middle School will develop a comprehensive plan to meet or to exceed the state standards set for the WESTEST 2.

Goal 2: Independence Middle School will include special education students in the regular classroom as much as possible in the areas of curriculum, special activities, and extra curricular activities while honoring the student's IEP at all times and the parent and student's wishes when deemed necessary.

Goal 3: Independence Middle School will emphasize the importance of technology as an integral component of the instructional program and will provide opportunities for students to improve basic skills through computer aided instruction using remedial, enrichment, and acceleration activities.

Goal 4: Independence Middle School will meet the standards set forth in WV Policy 2320 A Process For Improving Education: Performance Based Accreditation System with emphasis on the Performance Measures and the High Quality Standards to attain Full School Accreditation Status.
